  • The Sizing & Coating applications lab contains all the equipment required for the implementation of starch products used for paper surface sizing and coating.

    Roquette’s products in the STABILYS® range may be cooked, in either batch or continuously, with the aid of a jet cooker, in order to obtain glues with up to 40% solids.

    Starches, both native or modified are converted with thermo-chemical converters (oxidation) or enzymatic (continuous or discontinuous processes).

    These pilot units allow selection of the most performing starch derivatives in our client’s manufacturing conditions.
  • Roquette has recently developed a new cooking technology and a new range of products for coating: the VECTOR® HMS range. The glues obtained are 50% solids and are dedicated to top-coat formulation.
     
  • Water retention (both Gradek method or SD warren), solid content and pH of the coatings are controlled along with the viscosity as a function of shear rate up to 106 s-1, all checked so as to predict the machinability of the coatings according to the technology that to be used by our clients.

  • Roquette also offers both lab and pilot tools for coating paper and cardboard at medium and high speed. All coating technologies of the paper industry are on hand: size press, blade, film-press…. The sized and coated papers and boards can then be calendered to improve the gloss.

  • Paper and cardboard are characterized in our lab for their physical, mechanical, and optical properties, as well as their printability, after conditioning in temperature and humidity conditions according to the paper industry norms and according to methodologies that have been developed thanks to our in-depth know-how (mottling, printing gloss, transvision…).
  •  The Sizing & Coating application lab is constantly optimizing products and formulations according to specific criteria such as rheological behavior of sizes and coatings or paper characteristics, in conditions closest matching our clients.
  • It also regularly develops new products at their very best that answer the market’s latest demands.
